I read this through Kindle Unlimited.The Oak Wood Throne is an excellent continuation of the San Amaro Investigations series.Parker and Nick are great characters and a lovely couple (when they have time). I became invested in them in the first book, and it has continued through this one. Their give and take keep them on an even keel as they muck their way through the different aspects of their careers and callings. Watching them balance on the fine threads of what could destroy them was fun and, at times, worrying to watch.The secondary characters, old and new, pull their weight and do what they should to make their place inside these pages relevant.The underlying story(s), with its action and ominous undertones, kept me on the edge of my seat and rooting for the good guys.There is not a big bunch of sexy times, but what is there is, ahem, very well done.I made sure to reread book one before starting this one (and new readers should read Wormwood Summer before this one, or they will be lost) and enjoyed it just as much as the first time I read it.The teaser at the end of OWT made sure that I will impatiently await book three.I love this series.I look forward to more from this author. I'm absolutely a fan of this series, I love books that offers me mystery, action, romance and paranormal all rolled together in one package. This story continues with the MCs, Parker who is the newly appointed "Fae Windrose" and his lover Nick, a very powerful "Alchemist Cop". This story is so vivid that I have no trouble imagining this make believe world and getting so sucked up into it til I found it difficult to put this book to put down until I had completed it. But now I feel a little lost know that I have to wait at least 6 months (Jan 2022) before the next release. It's a double edge sword that I'm facing, because I absolutely despise series (I place that blame solely at the feet of the authors because they get to decide when or if they will ever release a new book, you know who you are!) and absolutely loving the fact that I get to continue reading about Parker and Nick, and learning more about their expanding and ever changing world. I will definitely be waiting patiently for the next installment and to be fair, so far Ms.Kai Butler has been pretty punctual about keeping her deadlines. And for that I say Thank you to her and for all the readers who are debating about buying this book, get IT. I don't believe you will be disappointed.
