Ebook About
He’s a player. He plays the bass with expert fingers. He plays women with intoxicating charm. And he’ll play me with the ease of a virtuoso.Who better to teach me to be player than the master himself?I’m his model student, front row, pencil sharp. Pick up lines? I’ve got them. Free drinks? By the dozen. Kissing? Let me grab my chapstick. But the most valuable lesson I’ve learned is that there’s so much I don’t know. Like why his touch sets off a chain reaction straight to my nethers. Or how I’m certain each kiss is the best I’ll ever have, until the moment his lips take mine again. But we are what we are. He’s a player, through and through. And I’m the fool who fell in love with him.

Book Player: A Fake Relationship Romantic Comedy (Red Lipstick Coalition Book 2) Review :

Sam doesn't date. At least not in the traditional sense of the word. He doesn't do the whole “relationship” thing, and expects that he never will. That doesn't mean he has a problem with casual hookups, but never with co-workers. Two simple rules that keep his life simple, the way he likes it.Sam's best friend Ian, who works with him as part of an orchestra on Broadway, Ian on percussion, Sam on Double Bass, is a bit of a troublemaker, and challenges Sam to a bet, one that would have him break both of his rules. The objective is for Sam to date Val, the adorable yet awkward and shy trumpeter they both know has a huge crush on Sam.What's different from most books that use the trope of a bet to move the story forward, is that Sam, who in turn has a soft spot for Val, has absolutely no interest in accepting that bet. That is, until Ian pushes the issue with the suggestion that if Sam doesn't accept, then Ian will pursue her instead. Implicit in that suggestion is the notion that Ian, who can be as charming as he can be callous, will go all out, saying and doing whatever he needs to to worm his way into Val's affections, before leaving her high, dry, and heartbroken once he's taken what he wants from her, and something within Sam simply wont allow that. Not with Val.Thus begins a whirlwind affair where not much is quite what it seems. Where Val and her friends get dragged into another part of Sam's life where he plays as part of a band at a swing club, where laughter and joy abound, where old assumptions and beliefs are tested and challenged, and where suddenly anything, even hidden dreams seem possible. While there are quiet moments, where the questions run deep and introspection seems not to have any answers, and there is conflict and heartache, the singular word that comes to mind when reflecting back on Player, by Staci Hart is the word Joy.There's a passage where Val reflects “Swing dancing is single-handedly the most jubilant act to ever exist. It only exists for joy and nothing else” and through her words, Staci effortlessly coveys that feeling of joy to her readers. The joy that comes from having good friends, from having a loving family (even if they can be overbearing in how they express that love), from engaging in snappy banter and sharing good times. The joy of falling in love.I've read almost everything that Staci has published and hands down, this is without a doubt in my mind the standout feelgood romance she's ever written, and I can't recommend it strongly enough.
5.5 Amazing Stars!Every now and then I read a book that features a female Main Character that I love everything about, one that I wish I knew in real life, and was my bestie. I can imagine calling her to gossip with, texting at all hours and meeting for drinks and/or shopping, and I might have a teeny, tiny girl-crush on. This would be Val; founding member of the Red Lipstick Coalition, a full-figured, trumpet playing beauty and the female love interest in Player, an incredibly funny and just a little angsty Standalone. Val and Sam, the H in the story, are my favorite book couple of the year! I loved this story, it gave me all the feels, and was I little sad to say good bye to them. For now at least; they’ll live on in the countless rereads I’m sure are to come.“A wise man had once said, low expectations are the key to life, and I was inclined to believe him.”Valentina “Val” Bolivar is living her dream; she got a permanent seat playing the trumpet in the orchestra pit for Wicked, on Broadway, after subbing for the original player. The buxom twenty-six year old beauty is content with her life even though she hasn’t dated in five years; her last date was in college, something she’d like to remedy with Sam, the bass player she’s crushing on. If only she could get the courage to talk to him; she’s usually pretty confident about herself except where men are concerned. Her self-esteem is riddled with body issues; something that she’s dealt with since she developed in fifth grade and has affected her deeply.“Oh, how I had wished for Sam. I’d wished on every star and eyelash. Every eleven eleven and every dandelion. I’d wished for him before I knew I was wishing for him.”Samhir “Sam” Haddad is aware of the beautiful new trumpet player. He knows she’s attracted to him, most women are, it’s always been that way for the handsome and wealthy serial dater. He’s never had a girlfriend, because he’s never wanted one, and he has a few rules when it comes to women.“I know what I can and can’t be to somebody. I can be a date. I can be a night. I can even be a weekend. But I can’t be more than that.”“Can’t or won’t?”“Maybe a bit of both. Or maybe I just don’t. Truth is, I don’t want to hurt anyone, that’s all.”Sam won’t make a move on Val, he never hits on anyone he works with, something his douchy best friend, Ian, isn’t so particular with. When Ian shows an interest in Val, Sam knows he’ll use any means to close the deal, even if he lies and hurts her to get what he wants. So when he makes a bet with Sam, the prize being Val, he takes the bet to protect her. When Sam suggests he give Val dating advice and lessons, that will last a month, she takes him up on his offer. And when Val suggests she needs expertise advice in everything dating related, Sam agrees to help her. It's a month that she’ll spend with him, and Val’s roommates are sure that he’ll fall in love with her and they’ll live HEA. Her roommates were also her college roommates, and they’re hopeless romantics; living vicariously through her, since no one really has had any luck with men. Their advice is hilarious and kinda sad at times! The more Sam and Val spend together, including swing dancing at Sam’s club, Sway, you just know something big is going to happen when the month’s up and lessons are over.“Have you ever had something you loved so much, you couldn’t bear for anyone to see it? Because if they did, it wouldn’t be yours anymore. Then it would be theirs. That piece of you, that part of your heart.”“Yes, I have, you.”
